Improving The Health of South Asians-My Background

Hello Kahani Community,
The purpose of my page will be to provide the Kahani community with South Asian resources and stories to improve their physical and emotional health. I am a physician in the bay area who co-founded PRANA, a comprehensive resource on South Asian health. I am also a medical consultant on South Asian health and run wellness programs for South Asian employees at companies like Cisco, Oracle and Genentech. Over the years I have become very familiar with the most common health issues South Asians face. One of the most striking things I have noticed is the often adverse effect of immigration on health, which typically occurs within the first year of arriving in a foreign land. Weight gain, high cholesterol, diabetes, and high stress levels are just a few of the intertwined byproducts of the immigration experience. I hope you will learn from my page and more importantly be motivated to improve your health, your family's health, and the health of your community. Thank you Kahani for giving me the platform to do this!

The first step in improving this important risk factor is to know how to interpret your cholesterol results. Do not assume your doctor will do this accurately for you. South Asians have some very unique features to their… Continue
